Dedicated to our beloved parents

                                                     Our Parents

This is the story of a family that went from the glamour, comfort and security that came with wealth , power and influence resulting from one man's career successes to downfall brought about more from betrayal, greed and lies by people surrounding him than his own failing health.

This is a story really past due its time for most of those who could verify or provide feedback, have gone, I pray, to a better place where the evils of this world cannot follow.

As I get closer to my twilight years, which will  be upon me soon, my mental recollections seem to be shaking, Yet, being gifted with the ability of photographic memory that comes with normal people, and I feel above average in this category, I will exert every effort to provide facts and knowledge of events with as much detail and clarity as I am able to.

Of course, nothing can be changed and there is nothing to be gained materially from this narrative, Being the first-born son, I am the forerunner and flagbearer of this family, by  traditional birthright given to the oldest male offspring-- a practice  accepted for centuries without question by many cultures, I hope to bring some honor and recognition to his name, which has been so sadly forgotten.

His full name was Syed Abul Fazal Mohammad Adbus Sobhan, keeping in line with the practice of giving multiple names to people to announce lineage. I do not mean royalty, but more of persons born in the upper tiers of society. For sure, our predecessors were landowners in a part of Bengal known as Comilla. Our forefathers properties bore our family  title "SYED" and was commonly called "SYEDBARI" . A literal translation could be "The House of Syed", much like it was prevalent in England not too long ago.  I do know a member of our family tree had in his possession, a family tree chart that clearly went back three generations. Alamgir Nana passed away several years ago and none of us, ever pursued making a copy of it or any effort for its preservation. In his defense, technology did not exist at that time to be able to copy a 3' x 5 ' document.

                         The Children

S.A.Sobhan was married four times, and only one at at a time.Except for his last marriage, which was to Zaheda, our mother, the other marriages were at the behest of his mother, our Grandmother, who greatly desired a grandson before she passed away. Farida, his oldest daughter was the first to be born to his first wife, but passed away untimely without the chance of another offspring. Two subsequent  wives selected by our grandmother did not bear any children. Salim was the first son to be born in the family, and as soon after birth of the first son, Salim, the other two wives, went their own ways. Based on personal knowledge, one of the wives had lineage to the Nawab family of Dhaka through Baliadi House - an elitist family of that time.

His children, in order of birth :
